    MANUEL JESÚS CORBACHO, PIANO

The saxophone and piano duet was formed while David and Manuel were studying at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Madrid in 2007. From the very beginning, they took on a demanding repertoire, with both originals and instrumental adaptations. The duet has had a busy concert schedule from the start, including performances in the main theatres in Madrid, such as the main theatre in the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid. They have also played live on the classical radio channel of RNE and Euro Radio. They participated in the presentation of the CD ALMA and in the presentation for the brand D’addario in the II European Saxophone Congress, which took place in Oporto in 2017.

Following a period working on independent and individual projects and training in countries such as the USA and Austria, they began working together again this year (2017), where they coincide again as tutors in the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Castilla-la Mancha.

The group Lu.2 Tonalis has won prizes for the Best Contemporary Music group and the Premio Liceo Gestión Cultural from the Miguel Ángel Colmenero Foundation, and Accésit in the II Concurso de Música de Cámara de Cofrentes (2017). In September 2017 they won the 1st Prize at the 6th Chamber Music Competition "Antón García Abril". The group are currently working on their next recording project.

    SONIA SIFRES Piano

The CD Alma is the first recording project with pianist Sonia Sifres whose performance career began in 2013. This recording project includes works by Robert and Camillo Schumann, adapted for each of the saxophones in the quartet.

Alma came about due to the union of two personal circumstances. The first of these was my curiosity to investigate the essence and depth of the sound, a route that helped me to explore and feel the emotions transmitted when I play my instrument.  I attempted to express my own interior voice via the 4 main saxophones in the family, including the stage repertoire of the duet with piano of the composers Robert and Camilio Schumann. The music of both of these composers has made a great impression on me, and I believe that it is the best way to transmit my own expressions.

The second factor, which was the most important when beginning the project, is a bit more complex and emotional. In this work, I never attempt to show off my skills or strengths with the instrument. Alma does not represent an exhibition, and this brings me great tranquillity. Alma is a personal sample of what I feel when I play music, conceived as a well-deserved gift for those who introduced me to this industry: my family. Do not listen to Alma with the ears of a saxophonist, nor with any historiographic intentions. I recommend listening to the recording with the heart, and attempting to understand that the aim is to show my loved ones, my family, what I feel when I play music. Alma is love and gratitude for the effort, time and dedication that my family have sacrificed for me, allowing me to get to where I am today.

Mum, Dad, Alba, Alexandre, Emma, María ... each note that you hear comes from a deep corner of my soul: each sound is directed straight at you.

The Octavia Saxophone Quartet played between 2008 and 2017, and is made up of alumni of the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música. They wished to take the performance potential of the saxophone quartet to the highest level. During these years, they worked intensely on two tasks: developing a demanding and complete repertoire to take part in important music competitions on National and International stages, and preparing concerts in theatres and auditoriums in Spain, France, Italy, and Scotland (including the World Congress of Saxophone in Saint Andrews).

They have won several awards over the course of their musical career, including First place in the International Yahama competition for Saxophone quartets (March 2009), Second place in the XII Young Musician’s Competition Pedro Bote in Villafranca de los Barros (November 2009), Third place in the XIII Young Musician’s Competition Pedro Bote in Villafranca de los Barros (November 2010), Special Diploma in the International Music Tournament of Verona (September 2010), First place in the XIX International Music Competition Josep Mirabent i Magrans (Barcelona 2011) and Special Mention in the Masterplayer Competition in Switzerland (2012).

As a result of their hard work and extended repertoire, they decided to record their first CD called Original, in 2015. This disk contains the specific repertoire of the training of classical composers, such as Rivier and Pierné, and contemporary composers such as César Camarero (Premio Nacional de Música), Ida Gotkovsky, Thierry Escaich or Piet Swerts, who they worked with during the recording phase.
